RECU hosted its second annual James K. Adams Financial Literacy Seminar and Scholarship on Thursday, May 14th. A total of sixteen participants attended including high school seniors, college students, and their parents. The two hour basic financial planning class was presented by RECU President, Jeanne Kucey, and covered such topics as interest rates, loan calculations, savings, 401k plans, and the importance of maintaining good credit. RECU marketing specialist, Vivian English helped to organize and staff the event. Mr. James K. Adams, while not able to attend, expressed his pleasure at seeing so many young people taking advantage of an opportunity to educate themselves with respect to their personal finances. Lucy Hicks, who is currently attending UGA, was awarded the $1,000- scholarship. Ms. Hicks has been an active RECU member since August of 2007. Several other participants were awarded door prizes. All participants received a basic financial planning workbook and refreshments. Several participants took the time to stop by or call the credit union to express their thanks for the informative program stating that the information was helpful, interesting, and easy to understand.
